Diagnosis requires a team approach

The average time for assessment ranges from two to four hours or more depending on the results of each stage and the overall complexity of each patient’s case that day.
Our model uses a triple test approach. This is the recommended approach to the investigation of a breast change or symptom and has been shown to be 99.8% accurate in the diagnosis of breast cancer*.

It includes:

  1. Clinical history and breast examination
  2. Mammogram and breast tomosynthesis and/or ultrasound
  3. Fine needle aspiration and/or core biopsy

Not all women will require all three tests to investigate their breast change. The number, and choice of tests required, will depend on factors such as the nature of the breast change, the age of the patient and the results of individual tests. Our doctors will discuss the need for particular tests as your visit progresses.

A multi-disciplinary setting is gold standard for diagnosis as it incorporates all these specialties at one visit, which allows for prompt diagnosis and treatment options.

Other procedures that may be required are :

Breast MRI, Vacuum Assisted Biopsy(VAB), Hookwire localisation
